This is a click-bait-y title. BUT, I wanted to see if this was possible, and it is!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;ve ever wanted a fast and secure WordPress site, here is one way to do it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: I would NOT recommend this (probably) for a live site. Maybe there&#8217;s a slightly different way of going about this, but I currently do not have my site on this set up because I would not call this a &#8220;stable&#8221; setup. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Onward&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Quick Video<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"How to Run Your WordPress Site On Gatsby and Netlify... For FREE!!!\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-F2qxOzBSvs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Steps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To accomplish a &#8220;free&#8221; (no money out of your pocket) site with WordPress, Gatsby and Netlify, you need to do the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Set up your site on <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Local by Flywheel (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/localbyflywheel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Local by Flywheel<\/a><\/li><li>Pull down <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"this repository (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/n8finch\/wp-starter-netlify-local-by-flywheel-demo\" target=\"_blank\">this repository<\/a> to your computer<\/li><li>Turn on the ngrok link and add that to the <code>gatsby-config.js<\/code> file<\/li><li>Save the file and run <code>gatsby develop<\/code> to make sure things compile.<\/li><li>Set up your environment in <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"netlify (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/app.netlify.com\" target=\"_blank\">netlify<\/a> by following the setup wizard.<\/li><li>As long as the ngrok site is live, you can deploy (e.g add a new post and deploy)<\/li><li>Deploy and re-deploy as necessary.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s really it, it&#8217;s super simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s the demo site: <a href=\"https:\/\/cranky-hypatia-4fe7f5.netlify.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">https:\/\/cranky-hypatia-4fe7f5.netlify.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And here&#8217;s the Github repo for the starter: <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/n8finch\/wp-starter-netlify-local-by-flywheel-demo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">https:\/\/github.com\/n8finch\/wp-starter-netlify-local-by-flywheel-demo<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fork it and do whatever!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Some Thoughts on This Setup<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are pros and cons of this setup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pros:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Your site is super secure, no one can access a database, hack it, etc.<\/li><li>You have control over everything.<\/li><li>You&#8217;re on Gatsby, so you&#8217;re getting a great experience out of the box.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cons:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>You need to back up your local install, somehow, however you want to.<\/li><li>ngrok is probably not the most reliable way to compile your site, especially if it&#8217;s more than just a blog or &#8220;brochure&#8221; site<\/li><li>All of your media needs to be hosted somewhere else (I&#8217;d recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/cloudinary.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Cloudinary<\/a> for images, and if you have audio or video, there&#8217;s plenty of services for that).<\/li><li>If you have anything that&#8217;s not static (shopping cart, membership site, some kind of LMS, etc.), there&#8217;s going to be an issue with you getting real-time data and interactions.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is This For Me?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Basically, if you have a static blog or site that doesn&#8217;t require any interaction, this might be a great setup for you.
