Recently, I ran across Jen Schultz’s blog where she’s started doing “WIP Wednesdays“. I like the idea of sharing the “process versus the product”.
So I thought I’d go ahead and implement my own to share what I’m working on and to keep track of things in more digital environment.
These WIP Wednesdays probably won’t happen every week, but they should be fun to look back on in a year🤓.
“My Reads” plugin
A few years ago, I began tracking my reading.
About a month ago, I started working on a sort of “bookshelf” plugin based on Dave Rupert’s bookshelf. I’m pretty happy with it, and have submitted it to the WordPress plugin repository. I’ve been through one round of revisions, so hopefully it won’t be long now.
You can see the current version of it on my bookshelf page.
It’s been really fun to work on. And since this site is a static site built on WordPress and scraped with Simply Static, I’ve made it work in both static and server-based setups.

Sketching and watercolor
Since last summer, I’ve been working on sketching and watercolor (off and on, if I’m honest). But, recently have been doing a couple a week. Here’s two I’ve really liked from the past week or so:

I’m getting better, and it’s nice to see improvement there.
Audio recording
This year, I wanted to make a concerted effort to get better at music. There are three main areas I wanted to focus on:
- Writing some songs
- Improving my guitar skills and general musicality
- Music production, like writing backing tracks, recording, mixing, and mastering
A friend of mine recently asked if I knew anyone who recorded music, and I said I’d been wanting to do just that. So, tomorrow, we’re getting together to lay down some scratch tracks. The idea is that I’ll add in instrumentation, mix, and master her music.
I’m super excited about this, and I have a ton to learn. I’ve been prepping by recording scratch tracks in Garageband and exploring what’s in there. I’ve also gone through several of the below videos and look forward to the process of making music…
